Create a video for Amnesty about human rights.

It’s the 60th Birthday of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and to  celebrate  Amnesty are holding a video and animation competition. Amnesty are offering you the  chance to make an animation or video.

The entries will be judged, and there are 15 prizes up for grabs including t-shirts,  DVD’s  and  Amnesty International books, as well as the opportunity to have your work displayed! Winning entries will be shown at an exhibition at Irish Aid on 10th December, the UDHR’s birthday.
What you need to do:

• Your completed video or animation piece should be no more than two minutes long, and should address the question: “What does the Universal Declaration of Human Rights mean to me?”

• Deadline: 21st November 08

• Date of exhibition: 10th December 08

• Venue: Irish Aid, Bishops Square, Redmond Hill

MediaForum is looking forward to joining the good and the great of media researchers for the annual Irish Media Research Network (IMRN) conference 2008.

We asked the nice people in the IMRN what they thought about the impact digital media is having and will have on media education in Ireland. Lots of thinking and talking, some questioning and querying, and more thinking and talking ensued until it was suggested we could do it proper-style in Maynooth at the start of their conference in September.

Last Wedneday the 14th of May the Communications Minister Eamon Ryan announced the publication of the Broadcasting Bill 2008.

The new Bill supersedes the Broadcasting Bill 2006 and updates current Radio and TV broadcasting legislation in light of modern technological advances and the EU’s Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD, Dec 2007)

Dr. John Horgan has been announced (14.AUG.2007) as Ireland’s first Press Ombudsman.

The Press Council’s press release statement can be viewed here.

“The key function of the new Press Ombudsman will be to investigate and adjudicate complaints made by members of the public against newspapers and magazines. A new Code of Practice has been agreed by the press industry,and this code will be the framework against which all complaints are considered.”
