News: BCI Media Research Funding

BCI OPENS 2008 ROUND OF MEDIA RESEARCH FUNDING SCHEME

The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland has today announced details of two project grants available under its Media Research Funding Scheme. The Scheme, which was launched in 2007, has funded three research projects to date to a value of €48,000; two addressing the issue of Ireland’s changing demographics, with the remaining research project exploring media literacy among 25-34 year olds. US Media Education Conference told to put young people on media diets.

Children and teens are being exposed to an unprecedented amount and variety of media — from Internet-accessing camera phones to plain old television — a situation that has many parents feeling confused or powerless over the increasing influence media has on their children’s lives, said Rona Zlokower, a Manchester-based media educator.
