OVERVIEW
Irish Youth Media Development’s inaugural conference “Youth Media Democracy” takes place in Dublin, April 18th and 19th will be hosting speakers from around the world for what looks to be the largest Conference of its kind ever to be held in Ireland.

The event will be opened by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources TD Eamon Ryan, April 18th at the Dublin Institute of Technology’s Aungier Street campus, hosted by IYMD in association with the School of Media.

World expert in Youth and Media, Prof. David Buckingham, Director, Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media - University of London, will deliver a keynote address called ‘Making sense of the Digital Generation’. Fullbright scholar and Executive Director of the George Lucas Foundation for Education in California, Dr. Milton Chen will look at media as an alternative way to educate youth on the margin. Firdoze Bulbulia, of Children’s broadcasting Foundation for Africa and 5th World Summit will outline the future of pan-African youth television and lead discussion on how the media of the ‘developed world’ treats images of African youth.
